IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a relatively new and better protocol for email checking as compared to POP3. Its advantages are that emails received do not have to be downloaded from the user’s client program, but they can be read and managed directly on the mail server.
