There are hundreds of thousands domain names that are being registered on the web every day. However, you still have a great variety of free names to choose from.
The choice of a domain name will depend on the number of combinations out of available letters and numbers, as well as on your imagination.
Finding an appropriate domain name initially seems to be an easy task. During the very first time when you will check on domain availability, you will realize that you have to do a lot of thinking.
Usually, it seems as if all the great ideas for a name you had at the beginning are already taken, and the good domains are already registered by other users.
At first, the best approach is to take enough time while choosing the right domain, because if your website gains in popularity with one name, it will be very difficult to change that name afterward without losing some initial users.
One of the first questions every person who has decided to have their own site faces is: How to choose my domain name? The good news is that there are plenty of cool names still available.
Here are a few tips that will help you choose the right domain:
1. Go for the shortest possible name.
The domain should be short, so it can be easy remembered and typed. Currently, there are no available short names (consisting of, for example, two or three symbols) among the most popular extensions (.com, .net, .eu and .bg). However, after releasing the new domain extensions, it is still possible to have your unique short name. The shorter the name you choose, the easier it will be for your users to find you on the world wide web. You should not go too far with that rule, since registration of short but meaningless letter and digit combinations would hardly help your website’s popularity.
2. The domain’s name should be easy to remember and must not cause confusion while typing it.
Nowadays in Bulgaria, we have to get used to the fact that the most popular domain names are still written in Latin letters. We may, however, also write domain names in Cyrillic.
Many of the letters from the Bulgarian alphabet, such as “й”, “ц”, “ч”, “ш”, “щ”, and “ъ” can be transliterated in a few different ways. For example: If your business is related to production of bottles, your logical choice for a domain will be “bottle.bg”, or written in Cyrillic, шише.бг. Writing “a bottle” from the Bulgarian language with Latin letters will look like “shishe.bg”, “6i6e.bg” or something similar. In spite of being quite catchy, options for writing “bottle.bg” with its specific spelling actually reduce the number of users that would stumble upon your website.
3. Your chosen domain name should clearly indicate your website’s planned content for representing your business on the Internet.
This is an important condition to make it easier for users to find your site when searching. Also, search engines such as Google, Bing, etc. can index and rank you in a better position. Nowadays an integral part of the business presentation is information on the Internet. The business vision of the web site is initially represented by the domain. It provides valuable information for search engines and it is nice to comply with the search engine optimization (Search Engine Optimization).
4. You have to choose the domain’s extension— .com, .net, .bg, .guru, .clothing, .holdings, .org, or something else.
Unarguably, the most popular extension on the Internet is .com. This means that if you sell sports shoes and your website’s name is sportsshoes.com, but your competitor’s website is sportsshoes.net, there is a bigger chance that the users will most often type the first option. However, if you are creating a commercial website, it is a good idea to buy all the common extensions for your domain (i.e., .com, .net, .bg, .info, .eu, and so on). The domain is worth buying, considering that users will always load your website with whatever extension they type. Some national extensions could be related in terms of meaning to your website, and in this way, you will get a more gripping name.
For example—if you decide on buy.me, then you will want to know that .me is the domain for Montenegro. Other national extensions, such as .tv or .tm are associated with worldwide popular abbreviations and are also easily remembered. The newest extensions are even closer to your business’ matter and reveal new opportunities: only4.singles, moto.bike, php.guru, leather.clothing, and many others.
5. Make the domain an active part of your marketing strategy.
If your website is business-oriented (for example, if you have an e-commerce, a web-based media, a directory, or you are building your corporate website), it will be great if the choice of a domain is part of your whole marketing strategy. Include the domain name(s), taking into account what product names and branding you will be sending to the market or with what exactly you wish for your company to be associated.
+1. Act now! Do not wait for long when choosing your domain name.
When you discover the best domain for you, register it now, even if your project’s development is still in its early stages.
