10 Tips for Managing your Hosting Account

In your customer profile on superhosting.bg you can manage your services – you might renew and transfer services, order new and additional services, change your contact details, etc.

In the cPanel of your hosting account you can manage your sites, files, directories, email and FTP accounts, databases, add-on domains, parked domains, data backup, etc.

1. Control Panel

The cPanel is used for hosting account management. In the cPanel you can manage your files, directories, mailboxes, FTP accounts, databases, data backups and many other features.

Tip: Please always use encrypted connection to access the cPanel. Also set a strong password containing uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols and numbers

2. Uploading Your Web Site

Качване на уеб сайт в хостинг акаунта

To upload a website you need to copy the website content into the public_html directory of your hosting account. The website content constitutes of directories and files. In order to work on the server, the website’s main file has to be named “index“, written entirely in lowercase: indеx.html, index.htm or index.php.

Before you upload the website files you need to delete or rename the system file “index.html”, located in the “public_html” directory. Upload the files via FTP client.

Tip: Always upload multiple files and directories via FTP. It is easier, quicker and more practical to use a FTP client to upload content to the account.

3. Directories and Files

To access and manage directories and files in your hosting account, please always use FTP through FTP client or the File Manager in the cPanel.

Tip: Keep your hosting account organized and in order. Remove unnecessary and unused directories and files. Keep files you don’t want accessed in the main directory of your hosting account – /home/cpaneluser/

4. Preview the Website without Redirecting the Domain

Preview the Website without Redirecting the Domain

To work with your site and test it from your hosting account without redirecting the domain, or after switching the DNS information, you can configure the host file (on your computer).

Tip: Remove the lines added to your host file after you preview the site..

5. Multiple websites

Multiple websites

You can add additional domains to the main domain with which you have activated your account. Adding a new domain to your hosting account (an Add-on domain) allows you to have another website.

What is an Add-on Domain?

Tip: Assign the directories for the new sites (Add-on Domains) outside the public_html directory, for example in /home/cpaneluser/mysite2/. In this way, the hosting account information is more structured and you will avoid conflicts between the sites.

6. Multiple domains – One website

Multiple domains - One website

If you want to add multiple domains to your hosting account pointing to the same website, you have to add them as Parked Domains.

What is a Parked Domain?

How to manually park a domain?

Tip: Don’t unwittingly send your clients to your competitors and ensure the online presence of your business. Book other domain names such as mysitename.com, mysitename.net, mysitename.org, mysitename.info, mysitename.equipment, mysitename.guru, etc. In this way, even if your clients type the wrong extension of your domain, there’s a better chance that they will find your site.

7. DNS (Domain Name Servers)

DNS (Domain Name Servers)

To associate a particular domain with your hosting account you need to assign the correct DNS. You can find the DNS for your hosting account by logging into your profile and clicking on Hosting accounts > Details.

The DNS information is sent to the contact email address immediately after the activation of your hosting account.

Each of the SuperHosting.bg servers has their own DNS. If Superhosting.BG name servers are assigned to the domain, this does not mean they are on the server where your hosting account is located.

You can change the DNS through the control panel provided by the domain registration provider. The propagation takes 2 to 48 hours. During this time the domain will remain inactive.

Tip: Check the Whois register to find out the assigned DNS of a particular domain. To view the current status of a site before the DNS information is refreshed, you can load it through a web proxy.

8. Email Accounts

Email Accounts

In the cPanel you can create email boxes ending with your domain.Example: info@mysitename.com, office@mysitename.com

How to Check My Email After I Create an Email Account?

Upon activation of the hosting account, the cPanel automatically creates an email box which is inactive due to security reasons. The name of the email box is “cpaneluser”. The email box cannot and should not be used. The email box cannot be removed. If you wish to use an email account with the name cpaneluser@mysitename.com, you need to create an additional one.

After you have created the mailboxes you can access them through an email client or web mail.

Tip: Set strong passwords for your mailboxes containing uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols and numbers.

9. Databases

Databases

To create a database go to cPanel -> MySQL databases. You can manage your databases in cPanel -> phpMyAdmin or remotely through an external application.

Tip: Create a new user for every new database in your hosting account. Do not use only one user for all databases. For easier management and maintenance, create a new database for each site you have.

10. Data Backup

Data Backup

You can generate a full backup of your hosting account from the Backup menu in the cPanel. When you generate a backup, the current state of the hosting account is archived. The archive can be downloaded locally. In this way you can keep a copy of the account data.

Tip: It is important to back up your data prior to making any major changes on your sites. In that way, when necessary, you can restore the account data.
